At an early age it was evident that she had a voice to sing which led to her singing in her church as a child. She was a member of the First Gospel Music Workshop Choir which started in Detroit.
That propelled her on a path which resulted in Sista Dee joining
Lucylle Lemon and the Lemon Gospel Chorus at twelve (12) years old as a vocalist. She remained with the chorus until age 21; as chorus they traveled all around the U.S. and performed with such greats as James Cleveland, Elma Hendricks Parham, Shirley Caesar, Donald Vails and a host of others.
When asked what it was like growing up in Motown, Sista Dee said, “It was awesome because, at one point in my life I did manage to audition for Berry Gordy.”

When Sista Dee started her family, she stopped singing with the choir and just sang as a soloist in her church. She ultimately “left the building” and sought God for herself.
As her son King Mellowman grew he showed extraordinary musical ability at an early age. Hence, Sista Dee selflessly placed her own music on hold as she focused her attention on him. Years later as an adult, King Mellowman in turn encouraged her to start singing again, and hopefully the messages in her songs will cause people to unite and learn to love one another.
Post church, Sista Dee recorded many secular songs, mostly about love, while being strongly conscious. Her first independent album “Wise Up” was released in 2004.
With years away from music and at the prodding of King Mellowman, Sista Dee did returned to the music scene and eventually recorded and released her sophomore album, “Give Me Jah” on the Arcanovi Records label followed in January 2014. This last album is a soulful mix of her own originals as well as covers of some timeless classics, with backing harmonies by herself and some by King Mellowman. The Album is available to the general public on various digital outlets.
Sista Dee musical contribution goes a bit further, when after helping a friend with her Detroit based radio station she was later invited to host her own radio gospel show.
Despite being at first hesitant, Sista Dee accepted and began hosting her own show, “Rockers Corner.” Eventually, she moved on to becoming the CEO of her own independent radio station, named after a famous Reggae club in her native Detroit.
As the owner and an operator of Rockers Corner Radio, Sisata Dee also devotes many hours per week in raising the awareness about many upcoming artists while promoting foundation artists who in her words, “are not getting air the play as they should.”
This was what drew her in into the attention of Empress Skortcher who after reading her bio realized how much passion Sista Dee has about not only her own work, but the works of two important group of people in the music industry; the foundation way papers, and the emerging artists.
Sista Dee also extends herself as she impacts people in different part of the world on various other radio stations through her Conscious Partners Network, which encompasses numerous stations under it’s umbrella.
Salute for a job well done and in progress Mama Dee.
